VICE

In 2002, I created “Vice,” a solo metal project in which I played every instrument and recorded and produced an album’s worth of material on my own. Scroll for music and photos.
I wrote the songs, music and lyrics both, and had to memorize the arrangements. I recorded the drum tracks to a click and nothing else. I then overdubbed the guitar and bass and any other sounds or instruments plus vocals. I did the mastering myself too. I did a bad job, but I did what I could with little resources. After all, I was a college student in my thirties.
I was back at LSU to finish my degree in English in 2002, and I wanted to control my calendar, but still play. Writing and recording everything on my own allowed me to book only when I was available while I pursued academics. I hoped to play live a few times a year, and that’s more or less how it went.
When we played live, Laurie Shefsky played guitar, Jorge Caicedo played bass, Chris Tarride sang, and I played drums.

Here are some samples of Vice’s music for you. It may be a band in the photos, but it’s only me plus a singer on the song recordings. Here’s a couple. Enjoy!
